What is the Baha'i Faith?

The Bahá’í Faith is an independent world religion which began on May 23, 1844. At that time, the adherents of many of the worlds religions were anticipating the coming of One who would bring a rebirth of their religion. We believe The Bahá’í Faith fulfills those promises of rebirth. Its principles direct mankind on a path of divine justice, leading eventually to the unity of all mankind. It believes there are two processes that are currently at work in the world. The first is the crumbling of the old world order and the second is the building of a new civilization founded on divinely ordained, spiritual principles. The Bahá’í Faith embraces the following principles:

God is one.
Religion is one. All religion is one reality emanating from one Unknowable Essence.
Man is one. All of mankind whether rich or poor, black or white, are all members of one family - the human family.

Independent Investigation of reality. All the peoples of the world must independently investigate the spiritual realities.
Equality of men and women. Men and women are like wings of a bird, which unless balanced can not attain steady flight.
The happiness and prosperity of the world are impossible until man eliminates the extremes of wealth and poverty.
World peace is inevitable. In spite of the turmoil and wars we see today, the peoples of the world will eventually live in a state of true spiritual harmony.
Science and religion are different facets of one reality.
A Universal Language will be established. This will help bring about true and lasting understanding.
Education is a necessary ingredient to the spiritual evolution of the world.
